MFD and MVFD work together to support the emergency response, fire protection, medical services, education, and community programs Montesano residents depend on.

The department serves just over 10 square miles within the City of Montesano and extends that service beyond city limits through mutual aid agreements with neighboring fire districts.

Whether responding to a medical emergency, fighting a fire, helping prevent one, or connecting with residents through education and outreach, the goal remains the same: to be there when our community needs us.

Serving Montesano Since 1892

​

For more than 130 years, fire service in Montesano has been built on a simple idea: neighbors showing up for neighbors.
 

The Montesano Fire Department began in 1892 as an all-volunteer organization. As Montesano grew, so did the department. The first full-time employee joined the department in the 1950s, marking the beginning of a combination of career and volunteer service that continues today.
 

In the early 1970s, Montesano became one of the first fire departments in Washington to introduce paramedics, expanding the department’s ability to provide lifesaving emergency medical care to the community.
 

Today, the Montesano Fire Department (MFD) includes a full-time Fire Chief and six skilled line staff. Together with the Montesano Volunteer Fire Department Association (MVFD), they carry forward a long tradition of service to our community.
